My Good Natured Man (husband) and I had dinner with some people we adore recently.
The Little Boy, (who I adore x 1 million) wasn’t eating his weird shaped pasta.
I happen to know he LOVES dinosaurs.
I leaned over to him and said,
“You have a whole bunch of dinosaurs on your plate. You need to make them EXTINCT.”
He looked at me with big eyes and said,
“I don’t STINK!”
“EXTINCT means they go away.”
He grinned and stabbed a “dinosaur” and said,
“I’m calling this a Cookie (my nickname) Dinosaur and I’ll make you X-STINK!”
And down the hatch, it went.
I laughed and thought,
No sh*t, kid. I totally just dodged the extinction meteor myself.
Being a breast cancer survivor makes you fully aware that one day you’ll be extinct.
Not sure if anyone has told you that lately, but one day, sooner or later, you’re going to be EXTINCT too.
Sally Smith. POOF! GONZO! (I apologize if your name is Sally Smith but I sure as hell wasn’t going to use my name.)
That lovely you: eater of chocolate; lover of bowling and rap; world traveler; friend, devoted mother/daughter/aunt/grandma/sister; and maker of the best-scrambled eggs in the known Universe…
Well. You’re going to be EXTINCT one day.
And that will be it.
But let’s put aside your (and my) upcoming extinctions for a minute.
Is there something you’ve been putting off? I get it. It has happened to all of us.
You’ve been waiting or you need more money or time or someone to do it with?
But time is ticking and it isn’t stopping for you.
You need to take a step back from BUSY and move to the world of ADAPTATION instead.
The way to outwit extinction (for a while anyway) – do small things.
You don’t have to go all in. But you do need to adapt some things in your life.
And I think, being the brilliant creature that you are, that you can certainly get out there and do something small to make your heart skip a beat.
Or do something small that connects you to others. Or do something small to find peace and calm in a slice of your day.
A big part of Simpler Living for Complicated People is knowing yourself.
Quite frankly, you need to do something that makes you feel you’re making your Dinosaur World better.
The fact you’re reading this – makes this Cookie Dinosaur pretty happy.
Because it is part of my dream of helping make the world a better place.
So. Over to you, o-complicated-one.
Make something count before you go X- STINK.
